Rolling Out the Rolex Learning Center

20 Feb 2010

The Rolex Learning Center, on the campus of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and designed by internationally acclaimed Japanese architecture firm, SANAA, opens on February 22, 2010.

According to the university, the Center will function as a laboratory for learning, a library with 500,000 volumes, and an international cultural hub open to both students and the public alike. Spread over one single fluid space of more than 200,000 square feet, it provides a seamless network of libraries, social spaces, study zones, restaurants, cafes, and beautiful outdoor patios. The highly innovative building, with its gentle slopes and terraces, undulates around the near invisible supports that hold up its complex, curving roof, which required completely new construction methods to build.
